  • 1 1/2 tsp dry onion**
  • 1 1/2 tsp season salt
  • 1-2 slices bacon

  4. Cut bacon into pieces and add to pan.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 30 minutes minimum***. May simmer longer, as rest of meal finishes.

Variations

You may substitute ham for the bacon. If using cooked ham, you may reduce simmer time to 15-20 minutes.
You may substitute water or water+base/bouillon for the broth.
You may also add diced potato for the last 15 minutes of cook time.

For fresh beans: Snap and rinse beans. 2 cups = 1 can. Follow rest of directions as written.

Notes

*Can substitute cut green beans
**You do not have to reconstitute the onion for this recipe, but you can. If using fresh, just dice it and dump it in.
***If omitting bacon, can simmer 15-20 minutes
