Ingredients
- 1 14.5 oz can whole green beans*, drained and rinsed
- 3/4 cup chicken or beef broth
- 1 1/2 tsp dry onion**
- 1 1/2 tsp season salt
- 1-2 slices bacon
Directions
- Put broth in saucepan.
- Add onion and season salt.
- Add green beans.
- Cut bacon into pieces and add to pan.
- Bring to a boil.
- Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 30 minutes minimum***. May simmer longer, as rest of meal finishes.
Variations
You may substitute ham for the bacon. If using cooked ham, you may reduce simmer time to 15-20 minutes.
You may substitute water or water+base/bouillon for the broth.
You may also add diced potato for the last 15 minutes of cook time.
For fresh beans: Snap and rinse beans. 2 cups = 1 can. Follow rest of directions as written.

*Can substitute cut green beans
**You do not have to reconstitute the onion for this recipe, but you can. If using fresh, just dice it and dump it in.
***If omitting bacon, can simmer 15-20 minutes
